The Courage of Christianity

How are we supposed to view ourselves as Christians? Many times we are thought of as being week or meek. The idea or the image of Jesus being a lamb, or of Jesus not standing up for himself, or even of Jesus willingly going to the cross. If we are to model Jesus, then shouldn't we also be meek and week? Should not we also let people have there way? Not stand up for ourselves and others? Is this the way we should live?

There is an Italian film maker from the sixties named Pier Paolo Pasolini. This guy made a movie about Jesus based on the Gospel of St. Matthew. Above you will find a short clip from the film and you can find the whole film here. Pasolini really doesn't pull any punches with this film. His portrayal of Christ is anything but week. He seems to lay it out there on the line.

The life of faith brings a tremendous amount of strength and courage. Think of any of the great religious and holy people of the past and present and you will also be able to find someone of deep character. I will even hold that you don't even have to look past the door of your own church. The more I became involved and got to know people, the more I began to see the strength they had because of their faith. The church is full of people who have found a better way, a stronger way to live their life. There are millions who have found the courage of Christianity.
